I like to use a variety
of mediums in my work making each painting unique in several ways.
Texture and design are important elements to me. Venetian plaster on paper
or canvas gives depth to pigment whether it is acrylic, oil or water
color. In addition I like to use charcoal to define areas or just to add
the effect of drawing to a painting.
Encaustic painting is
another medium that I like to work in. The word encaustic means to “burn
in”. It is literally hot wax that is applied either thick or thin to a
surface and then fused with oil pigment and moved or cooled and scraped.
It allows me to build up layers, impress the wax with design or move it
with heat. Greek artists were painting with encaustic as long ago as the
5th century B.C. Once applied to a
surface encaustic paint doesn't need to dry. Instead, it needs to cool.
The results are cool indeed.
Enjoy the gallery,
unfortunately the pictures do not let you see the textures that the
original works portray, but it will give you an idea of the range and
scope of my work!
